"공산주의 치하 폴란드에서 태어나 자라서 미국의 자본주의 만화책을 읽으며 영어를 배웠다"는 만화가 겸 출판인 Tom Kaczynski의 단편만화들을 모아서 지난 2012년에 단행본으로 나왔던 Beta Testing The Apocalypse의 출판 10주년을 맞아서, 새로운 단편만화 3개를 추가한 확장본 Beta Testing The Ongoing Apocalypse가 나와서 구입했습니다. 저 개인적으로는 예술만화 출판과 평론을 전문으로 하는 Fantagraphics 출판사에서 지난 2005년부터 2011년까지 내놨던 인디만화 앤솔로지 시리즈 Mome을 통해서 Tom Kaczynski의 작품을 처음 접했는데, 이민자 출신의 시각으로 미국사회를 바라보고 분석하는 것이 인상적이었죠. Tom Kaczynski는 자신이 운영하는 Uncivilized Books 출판사를 통해서 Craig Thompson이 어린 시절 인삼 농장에서 일했던 경험을 바탕으로 한 만화 Ginseng Roots와 같은 작품들을 펴내고 있기도 하죠.
